Dennis Farm in Book of International Historically Significant Sites

Excavating Memory: Sites of Remembering and Forgetting, an anthology of essays by an “international cast of experts,” edited by Maria Theresia Starzmann of McGill University and John R. Roby, PhD, includes a chapter on the Dennis Farm, which was the subject of Dr. Roby’s dissertation.

A reviewer writes, “Examining important sites of memory, the contributors highlight the myriad ways communities reinforce or interpret their pasts.”

In addition to the Dennis Farm, the book covers sites in Russia, Turkey, Canada, India, Central Africa, Spain, South Africa, Poland, Armenia and South Asia. “This interdisciplinary volume—melding anthropology, archaeology, sociology, history, philosophy, literature and archival studies… demonstrates the political relevance of analysis of social memory to community archaeology, public history, heritage studies, and education.”
