Albright College Students Tour Dennis Farm

On the chilly morning of April 4, 2022, Kami Fletcher, Ph.D., associate professor of history at Albright College, and an enthusiastic group of Albright students traveled from Reading, Pennsylvania to visit The Dennis Farm.  Darryl Gore, DFCLT VP of Development, and Lucas Taylor, DFCLT-Keystone College liaison, served as guides for Dr. Fletcher and her students on their tour of the Farm and its historical features.   Lonnie Moore, DFCLT Vice President of Marketing, and DFCLT President, Denise Dennis, also met and talked with Dr. Fletcher and the young people.  Denise presented a brief history of the Farm and the Perkins-Dennis Family.

The author of Till Death Do Us Part: American Ethnic Cemeteries as Borders Uncrossed, Dr. Fletcher’s research and expertise has focused on African American cemeteries.  Consequently, she and her students were especially interested in studying the Perkins-Dennis Cemetery on the Farm’s hilltop.  They were equally interested in the original Prince Perkins Homestead Site located on the Farm’s upper tier.

We were pleased to welcome Dr. Fletcher and her students to the Farm, were impressed by their interest in the property and its history, and look forward to working with them on educational projects, in the near future.  Enriching the lives of young people through education is central to DFCLT’s mission.  We encourage educators who would like to tour the farm and/or develop a Dennis Farm-related educational project to reach out to us, thedennisfarm.org/contact us.
