KINGSLEY, Pa. — 226 years ago, Prince Perkins played his fiddle at a Fourth of July celebration here in Kingsley. A free African American settler, Perkins and his wife, Judith, founded the Dennis Farm in 1793, beginning a family legacy that continues today.

More than two centuries later, the sound of the fiddle is part of another historic celebration: America’s 250th anniversary. Margaret Denise Dennis, president and CEO of the Dennis Farm, portrayed her ancestor Judith Perkins during the celebration.
