The Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust (DFCLT), in partnership with the Museum of the American Revolution (MoAR), hosted their Sixth Annual Lonaé A. Moore Forum, “It Begins with Each of Us: Fostering Racial Understanding,” on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
The stellar panel included Errin Haines, a founding member and Editor-at-Large of The 19*, a non-profit newsroom, former Associated Press national writer covering race, politics, women, and culture in America, and a frequent Commentator on media outlets including MSNBC, CNN, NPR and CBS; and Jesse McCarthy PhD, Assistant Professor, Departments of African and African American Studies and English Literature at Harvard University, author of Who Will Pay Reparations on My Soul?, and editor of the Norton Library’s 2022 edition of W.E. B. DuBois’ classic, The Souls of Black Folk. Adrienne Whaley, Director of Education and Community Engagement at MoAR, was the panel moderator and facilitated an effective Q&A with the panel and attendees.
The Forum theme, “A Way Forward,” addressed the current challenges to intellectual freedom, specifically to teaching history accurately at a time when elementary and secondary schools, universities, educators, libraries and librarians are under attack, and celebrated authors are being banned. The panelists offered thoughtful solutions for advancing an inclusive rendering of history and its effects on race, in order to foster a more equitable society.
